Spreading the word.....

A day in the Life of a child with selective Mutism...

Imagine what you are afraid most, then multiply that by your lack of understanding & childhood mentality, then place that fear in-front of you, every day of your life, place it together with the ones that you love to be with like your friends & colleagues.   Imagine fear that closes your throat & makes your heart pound inside of your chest.  This will give you an idea of what children with SM face every day of their lives!  Except we cant understand it! Why... because what they fear comes naturally to us in the form of speech.  It’s nothing you can see or touch so why are they afraid of it?  To try and better understand this Complex Condition I hope that you will browse through this site & other’s I have linked up for you.  If you have just found out that your child has or could have SM then this is a good place to start.

Good Luck

Characterized by a child’s Inability to speak in select social settings, such as school.  These children understand language & are in most cases able to talk normally in settings where they are comfortable, secure & relaxed.  In severe cases speech/language can present problems however, they can still speak.
